Project 7

For my final project I decided to paint a sketch I did a while ago. I didn't add a background to it because I wanted the bear to stand out and couldn't really decide on a background that I felt would help the bear do that.

Projects 2 &3

So, I forgot to post for a while ^^" Anyway, here's Projects 2 & 3.

Project 2 is a poster for the movie that's coming out next year: Rango.

Project 3 is a basic "scary" scene for halloween. Some custom brushes were used here.

Project 5

This little dude just kinda appeared from a group of clouds in the upper left hand corner. He was on his side up in that corner and I thought he needed to stand upright. There's a filter on the foremost layer that makes it look like rain and one on the back that adds depth. I think it kinda makes the little dude look like he's trying to take shelter from the rain under the dead tree.

Project 4

So for Project 4, the idea just came to me to draw an evil, demonic starfish. Don't know how or why, I just know that it liked being drawn. There are a few filters on here to make the it look all liquidy and whatnot. ^^

Project 6

I decided to continue developing a speed painting I did a few weeks ago for this landscape project. I'm happy with the way it came out, but I couldn't decide if I like the version with the frame and filter or the one without, so I decided to upload them both.

Speed Painting Sept 28th

Speed Painting from September 28th. One of the choices to choose from was a cartoon character, so I chose to do Mickey Mouse. Of course, I decided this halfway through the painting time, so he's not that great, but.... Here he is.

Speed Paintings Backlog

I totally forgot to upload the castle speed paintings from a little while ago. The first one was done in MyPaint and the second one was done in Photoshop.

I also forgot to upload the chaos speed painting last week. :) Don't know why, but I saw a slightly demonic pumpkin with a bat sitting on top of its head in that little section of the chaos.

Project 1

For my Project 1, I decided to create a griffin. His head and body is mainly based off of a bald eagle with a few modifications (such as the obvious color and head additions). Griffins are large flying creatures that I always picture having the easiest time living on cliffs where they can take off by simply running to the edge and gliding off as opposed to trying to lumber up from standing still on the ground. So that's why the background is a cliff face.

My workflow was pretty simple. I did outlines of both the griffin and the environment. Then I added color on top of it in different layers and at different opacities. I used the smudge tool a lot especially on the sky and the lower layers of both the environment and the creature. Each separate element basically has its own layer. The sky, cliff, and the two levels of trees have their own layers. There's a small adjustment layer on the sky as well. The griffin's beak and eyes are separate layers from the actual body which is made up of about four or five different layers, each with varying colors and opacities on them. The higher layers of the eagle are more transparent, allowing some of the color variations created on the lower layers through use of the smudge tool to show through slightly.
